Frequently asked questions

Quick answers on CIS, umbrella PAYE and how we work. Can't see your question? Just ask.

What services does GB CIS Payroll Solutions Ltd provide?
We provide CIS payroll, umbrella PAYE and subcontractor payment services for the construction industry, including verification, deductions, monthly returns and HMRC submissions.
What is the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)?
CIS is an HMRC scheme governing payments between contractors and subcontractors in construction. Contractors verify subcontractors and deduct tax from payments before passing it to HMRC.
Are your services HMRC compliant?
Yes. Compliance is central to everything we do, and all services are operated in line with HMRC requirements and current legislation.
Do you verify subcontractors?
Yes. We verify subcontractors with HMRC and apply the correct deduction rate — gross, 20% or 30% — to each payment.
Do you file the monthly CIS returns?
Yes. We prepare and submit your monthly CIS returns (CIS300) and provide payment and deduction statements.
What is the difference between CIS and umbrella PAYE?
Under CIS, subcontractors are paid with a tax deduction but remain self-employed. Under umbrella PAYE, workers are employed and paid through PAYE with full statutory rights. We can advise which fits an engagement.
How often can you process payments?
We offer weekly, fortnightly and monthly payment runs to suit your project and workforce.
Do you handle pensions for umbrella workers?
Yes. For umbrella PAYE we manage workplace pension administration and auto-enrolment requirements.
How quickly can we get started?
Most clients can be onboarded quickly, with timescales depending on workforce size and complexity. Contact us and we'll guide you through it.
Do we get dedicated support?
Yes. Every client has access to our experienced, UK-based payroll team.
